M.V.TAIHO
MV Taiho (‘Heart of the Tree’) is a classic 40’ carvel-planked launch, built in 1957 from one-inch kauri plank by Swanson’s boatyard in Picton. She is powered by a 115 h.p. Ford diesel motor and weighs 15 tonnes. Taiho is fully equipped with all the required safety equipment and holds an up to date survey certificate to carry nine passengers on day trips and five passengers overnight. There are internal and external showers, a flush toilet and a well-equipped galley.
Skipper Peter McKenzie has been fishing the waters of the Coromandel Peninsula , Great Barrier Island and the Mercury Islands for the past twenty years. Besides the best fishing spots, he also knows where to find hot springs in the bush and remote wilderness areas of the Hauraki Gulf accessible only by sea.
Join Taiho for a day’s fishing or a cruise to the Coromandel and Colville islands and learn about their history, wildlife and cultural heritage.
Rods and bait are supplied at no extra charge. Lunch can be provided for a small charge. Tea and coffee is complimentary.
Ask about out special packages for kayakers, or organise a small party to charter Taiho for a more adventurous cruise to Great Barrier Island or the Mercury Islands. We can tailor a package to suit tramping parties, kayakers, dive groups or those who just want to get away from it all.
